Most Indians will find nothing remarkable about this little space-filler from the gossip column of a Hyderabad newspaper. To many western readers however, it might be a little strange to hear about society ladies putting their activities on hold during exam season. I don't think you will ever see an article like this the New York Times Sunday Style section!
exam fever    In previous articles, I have described the frenzy that goes on about college entrance exams. This article illustrates that even pampered high-society kids are not spared the pressure of getting a good marks in these exams. No matter how rich you are, status is still often judged by your childrens' exam scores!
Board Exams: Education in India is a joint Center/state responsibility. Some schools are affiliated with state boards while other are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education in Delhi. These boards conduct public examinations (popularly called board examinations) at the end of the tenth and twelfth grades.
While elite colleges and universities have their own entrance examinations, it is nevertheless important for students to do well in board examinations as well.
These exams are all usually held held in March. Due to all of these exams, school children all have to prepare in ernest starting from December.
